Sleeve alteration Shortening or adjusting sleeves, including cuffs Jumeirah
Custom abaya tailoring Adjusting the fit of an abaya through the body and shoulders Jumeirah

Who is it for?

Anyone between two lengths on our size guide, anyone who wears flats one day and heels the next, petite and tall customers (under 150 cm or over 178 cm), and anyone who wants an abaya that sits exactly right at the shoulder and wrist. We alter pieces bought from Saffron Lane online or in store.

How does it work?

  1. Bring the piece to the store, or add an alteration service to your order and choose click & collect.
  2. Try it on with the shoes you plan to wear. Our tailor pins the length or fit with you.
  3. We confirm the price, which is shown on this page from our POS, and the ready date.
  4. We message you by WhatsApp or SMS when the piece is ready, usually in 2–3 days.
  5. Collect, try it on again, and we make any small final adjustment on the spot.

What does it cost?

Each alteration is a separate service with its own current price, shown on this page and taken live from our POS. Custom tailoring and made-to-measure are quoted at the fitting, depending on the work involved.

What should I bring?

  • The piece, clean and unworn if it is new
  • The shoes you will wear most with it, as heel height changes the hem
  • An under-scarf cap or shayla if you want to check the overall line
  • Your order number if the piece was bought online

How long does it take?

Most hemming and sleeve work is ready in 2–3 days. Made-to-measure pieces take longer; we give you a date at the fitting. Before Eid and the wedding season the alterations room is busiest, so we suggest booking early. See live hours on our Stores page.

Can I return an altered piece?

No. Altered or hemmed items and made-to-measure pieces cannot be returned or exchanged, because they have been cut to you. Please try a new piece on and be sure of colour and style before we alter it. If a piece you are unsure about is still unworn with tags attached, exchange it first within 14 days under our returns policy, then have the new one altered.

Questions

Questions about Abaya Alterations and Hemming in Dubai

Can you hem an abaya I bought somewhere else?

Please ask in store. Our tailors work first on Saffron Lane pieces, and whether we can take on another abaya depends on its fabric and trim and on the queue that week. Bring it to the Jumeirah flagship and the team will tell you on the spot.

Which alterations are done at Al Barsha and which at Jumeirah?

Quick hemming of abayas and trousers is done at both stores. Sleeve alterations, custom abaya tailoring and made-to-measure fittings are handled in the alterations room at the Jumeirah flagship, where the tailors and the fitting space are. Every alteration takes 2–3 days, and the current price of each is shown on the alterations page.

Can you shorten the sleeves of an abaya?

Yes. Sleeve alteration is one of our standard services, done in the Jumeirah alterations room in 2–3 days. Sleeves with lace, pearl trim or embroidery at the cuff may need the trim moved, and the tailor will tell you at the fitting whether that is possible.

How much does it cost to hem an abaya in Dubai at Saffron Lane?

The current price for hemming, and for every other alteration, comes live from our POS and is shown on the alterations page, so you always see today's figure. You pay in store when you drop the piece off or collect it.

Do I need to be there in person for a hem to be pinned?

It is best. We pin the length while you wear the abaya in the shoes you will wear with it, which is the only reliable way to get the hem right. If you cannot come, bring an abaya that already fits you and we copy its length.

Can I return an abaya after it has been altered?

No. Once an abaya or any other piece has been hemmed or altered, it cannot be returned or exchanged, because it has been changed to fit you. Try the piece on fully before the alteration and ask us to pin it twice if you are unsure.

What is the difference between custom tailoring and made-to-measure?

Custom tailoring changes an existing piece more deeply, such as taking in the body or reshaping sleeves. Made-to-measure starts from your measurements: you choose the fabric and details at a fitting in Jumeirah and the abaya is cut for you. Both have current prices shown on the alterations page.

Can you rush an alteration before an event?

Our standard turnaround is 2–3 days. If you have a wedding or Eid gathering sooner than that, tell us when you drop the piece off and we will say honestly whether the tailors can fit it in. Planning a week ahead is the safest.
